چکیده

Abstract We report spectropolarimetric observations of the Type Ia supernova (SN) SN 2021rhu at four epochs: ?7, +0, +36, and +79 days relative to its B -band maximum luminosity. A wavelength-dependent continuum polarization peaking 3890 ± 93 Å reaching a level p max = 1.78 % ± 0.02 % was found. The peak curve is bluer than typical in Milky Way, indicating larger proportion small dust grains along sight line SN. After removing interstellar polarization, we found pronounced increase Ca ii near-infrared triplet, from ?0.3% day ?7 ?2.5% +79. No temporal evolution high-resolution flux spectra across Na i D H K features seen +39 +74, that late-time intrinsic as opposed being caused by scattering photons circumstellar or matter. suggest an explanation for rise triplet may be alignment calcium atoms weak magnetic field through optical excitation/pumping anisotropic radiation

Spectropolarimetry of SN 2006aj at 9.6 days

Context. The observational technique of spectropolarimetry has been used to directly measure the asymmetries of Supernovae (SNe), Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) and X-Ray Flashes (XRFs). Aims. We wish to determine if non-axial asymmetries are present in SNe that are associated with GRBs and XRFs, given the particular alignment of the jet axis and axis of symmetry with the line of sight in these cases....

Optical Spectropolarimetry of Sn 2002ap: a High Velocity Asymmetric Explosion

We present spectropolarimetry of the Type Ic supernova SN 2002ap and give a preliminary analysis: the data were taken at two epochs, close to and one month later than the visual maximum (2002 February 8). In addition we present June 9 spectropolarimetry without analysis. The data show the development of linear polarization. Distinct polarization profiles were seen only in the O I λ7773 multiple...

Evidence for Asphericity in a Subluminous Type Ia Supernova: Spectropolarimetry of SN 1999by

We present polarization spectra near maximum light for the strongly subluminous Type Ia supernova 1999by that show that the supernova is intrinsically polarized. SN 1999by has an observed, overall level of polarization of ≈ 0.3 to 0.8%, a rise of the polarization P redward of 6500 Å, and a change in polarization across the Si II 6150 Å feature of about 0.4%. The presentation of the polarization...

Spectropolarimetry of SN 2001el in NGC 1448: Asphericity of a Normal Type Ia Supernova

High-quality spectropolarimetry (range 417-860 nm; spectral resolution 1.27 nm and 0.265 nm/pixel) of the SN Ia 2001el were obtained with the ESO Very Large Telescope Melipal (+ FORS1) at 5 epochs. The spectra a week before maximum and around maximum indicate photospheric expansion velocities of about 10,000 km s. Prior to optical maximum, the linear polarization of the continuum was ≈ 0.2 − 0....

Supernova Explosions: Lessons from Spectropolarimetry

Supernova can be polarized by an asymmetry in the explosion process, an off-center source of illumination, scattering in an envelope distorted by rotation or a binary companion, or scattering by the circumstellar dust. Careful polarimetry is the most powerful tool to study the 3-D geometry of supernovae. A deep understanding of the 3-D geometry of SNe is essential in using them as calibrated di...
